Mingle

It is walking along the streets of Ubud looking for a restaurant that is still open that you come accross Mingle. Newcomer (2014) on jalan Dewi Sita, Mingle is trendy without going too far this way. The restaurant has two levels and makes you feel at home. The best tables are upstairs, on the balcony. The setting is a bit kitsch but it is all very charming.
On the menu, traditional Indonesian dishes. The vegetarian curry is excellent, the nasi goreng and mie goring as well. Over all, the prices are more than reasonable. However, the sweet tooth must think about ordering dessert as soon as they get there is it’s a bit late as the kitchen closes around 10.30pm.

Price: IDR 60 000 for a curry and an ice tea

Ubud Inn

Ubud Inn as a hotel / restaurant located on Monkey Forest street. If a first dining room is right on the street, a few tables are hidden in the garden, in front of the swimming pool. The setting is great and is an invite to chilling out while eating a mie goreng. However, it’s the dessert that is surprisingly tasteful: the Balinese crepes with roasted coconut. To die for! However, the mango juice is disappointing.

Price: IDR 75 000 for a mie goreng, Balinese crepes and a mango juice

Three Monkeys

The Three Monkeys restaurant is located on Monkey Forest street. Behind a very classic entrance, the restaurant opens on a large place with a view over a rice paddy where kids are quick at going to have a walk. The menu is pretty original with a good selection of Indonesian and Western dishes (the pizzas looked excellent). The only drawback is the greeting that could be better. However, the food and the setting make up for it.

Price: IDR 70 000 for a dish and a beverage

Puteri Minang

Puteri Minang is both a typical and atypical place. Typical because it’s a warung where the Balinese go; atypical because it’s definitely not the kind of place where tourists usually go. Located on Ubud’s main road, Puteri Minang doesn’t look great but serves a good traditional food, a bit like a high end Balinese fast food. You can choose the composition of your plate from the dishes in the window and sit in the restaurant. It’s not trendy, it’s not chic, but it’s good!

Price: IDR 25 000 for a dish and an ice tea

Mozaic

Mozaic is a gourmet restaurant famous for belonging to the best in the world. The setting is agreeable, a mix between the lounge bar with warm colors, a sober and chic furniture, corresponding to the place, and the tables in the garden with dim light. If the prices are high for Bali, they are very reasonable for a restaurant of that type. There is a choice between two menus, each with two starts, two entrées and two desserts: the first is a Bali tastes discovery menu, the second is the chef’s selection. Having dinner at Mozaic is a great experience in Bali and the discovery menu is a good way to taste Bali’s products in a totally different way.

Price: starting from IDR 550 000

Laughing Buddha Bar

The Laughing Buddha Bar is a hybrid place : a bit restaurant, a bit bar, a bit jazzy…Several times a week, bands come to play a groovy, soul music. Better get upstairs to enjoy the music without it being too loud. The menu proposes nasi goring, salads and a delicious banana split that is a sufficient reason to go there. If you’re not afraid of oinions, try the chicken salad. It’s absolutely delicious!

Price: a salad, a banana split and a smoothie IDR 100 000

Laka Leke

Laka Leke restaurant is located in a magnificent garden, close to the Monkey Forest temple, in border of rice paddies. The specialty is duck, either crispy or smoked. For a unique dinner, choose the smoked duck to be ordered at least a day before, served for two in a menu including a welcome drink, a dessert and a tea or coffee. On Mondays, fire dancers (Kecak) make a memorable show.

Price: IDR 250 000 for the smoked duck menu

Dewi Café

Located above Tegallallang rice terraces, the Dewi Café has an astounding setting. There you can have lunch facing the rice terraces below, away from the road. The path to the restaurant is small and hard to see. However, once you’re there, the magic goes on. Indonesian dishes and excellent fresh fruit juices are on the menu. Perfect for a peaceful pause with a wonderful view.

Price: IDR 60 000 for a starter, a dish and a beverage

Devilicious

Devilicious is a warung, a cheap, tasty restaurant. Located on Jalan Gootama, in between Monkey Forste street and Jalan Hanoman, it enjoys the calmof the tiny lane. The setting is trendy, almost like a lounge. Very appreciated by the travelers who like to get off the major streets, Devilicious proposes a simple, traditional and delicious food. If you’re lucky, you might come across a thematic evening (Italian, Cajun…). Important in Ubud where everything closes early, Devilicious serves late.

Price: IDR 35 000 for a dish and a beverage

Clear Café

Clear Café is an organic restaurant located on Jalan Hanoman, one of the two major streets of Ubud. The setting is natural: bamboo, stone and small ponds in the back of the restaurant. The food is excellent and the menu is full of very tasteful traditional dishes. My favorite? The ikan asli, a fish in coconut crust served with a pineapple sauce. A pure delight! However, the desserts are a bit disappointing. You better take a starter and a dish. As for the juices and smoothies, they’re all surprisingly original.

Price: IDR 100 000 for a dish, a dessert and a juice
